What is Coaching?

Coaching is not telling people what to do; it is helping them clarify and control their life. It is helping them evaluate what they are doing now in their life in the light of their goals, dreams, values and intentions. It gives them new choices and leads to change. Coaching helps a person go beyond the mental blocks of what they thought was possible.

Coaching works as a partnership between coach and client, it helps to clarify goals, to make them challenging and motivating, then to achieve those goals with the energy that comes from their deepest values.

Coaches are specially trained to work with people in all walks of life to help them achieve their goals, live their values and be the best they can be.

Isn’t coaching like therapy?

Coaching, a powerful tool for personal growth and development, is all about self-exploration and understanding, propelled by action and motivation. It serves as a catalyst for positive change, allowing individuals to tap into their untapped potential and achieve their goals. How can coaching help me?

Coaching can be an invaluable tool that not only helps you clarify your goals and identify manageable steps to achieving them but also delves deeper into the reasons behind any self-imposed barriers that may be hindering your success. By working closely with a coach, you gain a better understanding of the ways in which you might unknowingly be blocking yourself and, more importantly, you acquire actionable strategies to overcome these obstacles. This collaborative process becomes even more impactful when you possess a high level of motivation and a strong desire to take on tasks beyond the structured coaching sessions, allowing you to truly maximise your progress and reach new heights of personal and professional fulfilment.

What happens in a typical session?

Most commonly, life coaching sessions last between 45 and 60 minutes, some coaches may provide shorter (30 minutes) or longer sessions (2 hours or more). Coaches commonly provide coaching over the phone although face to face, email and Skype can be offered.

During the session, your life coach will ask you what you want for your life, what areas you’re unhappy with and where you’d like to see yourself getting to. Your life coach will ask certain questions to help you consider your situation and options for growth. Once your goals are clarified, your life coach will work collaboratively to help you explore how to make positive changes in your life, which will lead you towards your chosen goals. Sessions are confidential, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings privately.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you may need varies, depending on where you are and what you want to achieve. Some clients with one or two specific issues, may be able to achieve their goals in as little as one to three months. Other clients may wish to work with a coach on a range of issues and this can take anywhere from six, to eighteen months, depending on the outcome you are seeking. I offer six week programmes but most people require twelve weeks to start getting noticeable results.
